Economic Growth and Environmental Responsibility Discussed in Almaty

On September 9, 2026, a round table entitled “Economic Growth and Environmental Responsibility: Priority or Balance?” was held at the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The event focused on pressing issues related to environmental protection and improving the environmental situation in Almaty. In particular, the participants discussed reducing urban noise levels, protecting soil and water resources, preserving the condition of rivers and lakes, improving household waste management, and keeping the city clean.

Special attention was paid to the rational use of groundwater, conservation of natural resources, reduction of anthropogenic pressure on the environment, and ensuring environmental safety.

The round table brought together leading specialists, scientists, experts, and environmental activists in the fields of ecology, biology, water resources, agriculture, geography, and sustainable development. Representatives of the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University, Satbayev University, the Institute of Geography and Water Security, the Institute of Botany and Phytointroduction, S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University, Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, and the Almaty Development Center also took part in the event.

S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University was represented by G.A. Begimbetova, Associate Professor of the Department of Public Health.

During the round table, the participants emphasized the importance of maintaining an effective balance between economic development and environmental protection. The need to strengthen joint scientific and practical efforts in sustainable development, rational use of natural resources, and enhancement of environmental safety was also highlighted.
