History of the department
The Department of “Health Policy and Management” was renamed by Rector’s Order №470 from 03.09.2021.
The founder and the first head of the department was the rector of the University, Honored Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Akanov Aikan.
From 2014 to 2017, the department was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor K.K. Kurakbayev.
From September 2017-2018, the department was headed by Candidate of Medical Sciences Sataev M.M.
From 2018 to the present, the head of the department is PhD, Associate Professor Kosherbayeva Lyazzat.
By order of the rector dated 12.09.2017 №496 “On the assignment of University departments to deaneries and academic departments”, the department is assigned to the Dosmukhamedov School of Public Health.
| The founder of the department was Rector of KazNMU (2008-2015) Akanov Aikan Akanovich Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor – An outstanding Soviet and Kazakhstani physician, scientist, and educator who made a significant contribution to the development of medicine and healthcare in Kazakhstan. With a doctorate in medicine and a professorship, he successfully combined scientific activity with administrative work, holding key positions, including Deputy Minister of Health and Rector of KazNMU named after S. D. Asfendiyarov. His many years of experience in cardiology, as well as his active role in promoting healthy lifestyles and developing the country’s healthcare system, have made him one of the recognized leaders of the medical community in Kazakhstan. He was awarded the title of “Honored Worker of Kazakhstan” (2001), the “10 Years of Astana” medal (2008), the “20 Years of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan” medal (2011), the ‘Parasat’ order (2012), and the “Cultural Figure” badge. |
| Kuralbay Kurakbayev Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor (2015-2017) – Author of patents for inventions and copyright certificates, monographs, and more than 200 scientific papers published in international and national medical journals. Member of the national and regional headquarters for information and outreach on compulsory social health insurance (CSHI) since 2018, member of the CSHI public advisory council since 2020, member of the Council of Health Care Veterans of the Republic of Kazakhstan since 2021. Awarded the Certificate of Honor of the Republic of Kazakhstan (1995), the badges “Excellence in Healthcare of the USSR,” “Excellence in Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan” (1997), and “Densaulyq saktau salasyn kosqan ulesi ushin” (2004), the anniversary medal for the 20th anniversary of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2011), the 30th anniversary of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2021), and the Order of “Kumret” (2013). Murat Usataev Candidate of Medical Sciences – Graduate of the 2nd Moscow Medical Institute, Candidate of Medical Sciences specializing in Social Hygiene and Health Care Organization (Orenburg Medical Institute). He has experience working as a researcher at the WHO Center for Primary Health Care and Nursing, a leading researcher at the B.U. Dzharbusynov Scientific Center for Urology, and head of the Innovation Department at the Scientific Center for Medical and Economic Problems of Health Care of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Over the years, he has held the positions of head of the WHO Office in Kazakhstan, deputy director general of the National Center for Healthy Lifestyle Promotion, project coordinator at the Almaty Institute of Public Health, deputy project manager at DTRA (USA), and deputy executive director of the VOTA Public Foundation. He is the author of scientific publications in the field of public health and healthcare organization. |
