On April 16, 2025, a conference dedicated to the 135th anniversary of the birth of the great son of the Kazakh people, Sanjar Jafarovich Asfendiyarov—a prominent public figure, scholar, and People’s Commissar of Health of the Kazakh ASSR—was held at B. Momyshuly Secondary School in the Karasai District.
At the invitation of the school administration, faculty members from the Department of Public Health participated in the conference: PhD, Head of the Department, Associate Professor Zhaksylyk K. Kozhekenova; PhD, Associate Professor without a scientific title Galiya M. Alikeeva; Master, Assistant Professor M.S. Musina; and third-year students from the Public Health program.
During the event, they delivered insightful presentations that revealed the multifaceted personality and invaluable contributions of S.D. Asfendiyarov to Kazakhstan’s development. They highlighted his role in establishing a system for training medical personnel and founding the first medical university in the republic, noted his scientific achievements, and discussed his activities as a historian, publicist, and statesman. They also shared information about the life and professional journey of Gulsum Asfendiyarova—the first female doctor.
The conference was held at a high organizational level, embodying respect for historical heritage and a commitment to knowledge among youth. Participants emphasized the importance of preserving the memory of outstanding individuals who contributed to the country’s development and underscored the necessity of continuing their work.
As part of their visit, faculty members also conducted career guidance activities for high school students, providing detailed information about the advantages of enrolling in NAO “Kazakh National Medical University named after S.D. Asfendiyarov,” educational programs, learning conditions, and career growth opportunities in healthcare. The students showed keen interest and asked questions about the medical profession, specifics of education, and employment prospects.
