With the opening of the medical institute, military medical training of students was also carried out to train reserve medical officers.
In January 1938, a military department was created (Decree of the Council of People’s Commissars of the USSR of November 10, 1937 and the MС MS of February 2, 1938). Sanitary – chemical defense and sanitary tactics were taught.
Since February 16, 1939, the teaching of certain military medical disciplines was organized at the adjacent departments of the institute. At the Department of Hospital Surgery, a military surgery cabinet was organized. The toxicology of toxic substances was taught at the Department of Pharmacology as an independent course.
The department receives its further development in the war and post-war time. Since 1944, the equipment of the department was replenished with the full-service medical property of the regiment. The department was located in 5 rooms in the 2nd academic building.
The staff of the military department conducted mass defense and sports work at the institute. The military department during the war years also took part in the work of SPACD, later VAAAAFN. The department constantly conducted research work of defense significance.
Since its inception, the military department has trained more than 47,000 medical reserve service officers. The main task of the department is the training of medical reserve officers for the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Many graduates of the institute became military doctors, held senior positions in the USSR Armed Forces (Colonel General of the Medical Service, Professor B.V.Gaydar – Head of the Military Medical Academy, Major General of the Medical Service E.V.Dobrikov – Head of the Medical Service of the Southern Group of Forces, Professor Yu.M.Polumiskov – Head of the Department of the Military Medical Faculty at TSOLIUV).
Graduates of the military department of our university served in the ranks of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan in leadership positions. Among them, Major General of the Medical Service T.S.Nurmagambetov – First Head of the Military Medical Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Colonel of the Medical Service S.N.Dubinin – First Chief Pharmacist of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Colonel of the Medical Service A.S.Vysochin – The first chief surgeon of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The first head of the military department was a military doctor of the 3rd rank, associate professor Vitaly Vasilyevich Chudinov.

Many university graduates who received military medical training within the walls of the department fulfill their professional and military duty as doctors of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Among them: Colonel of m/s T.Zh.Oshakbayev, Colonel of m/s N.B.Kalkayeva, Lieutenant Colonel of m/s A.N.Vasetskiy, Colonel of m/s Сыбанбекулы Н, Lieutenant Colonel of m/s Калдашов С.М., and others.
Currently at the military department of the university, headed by the retired colonel of the medical service, candidate of medical sciences Zh.T.Isabayev, lecturers of the department share their experience with students, having rich experience in the army, retired colonel of the medical service P.V.Dmitriev, retired colonel N.I.Nasyrov, retired lieutenant colonel of the medical service A.T.Lesbayev, retired colonel of the medical service I.M.Isakov.
Specialists of the highest level work together with them: retired warrant officer S.M.Tynsyzbayeva (served in the MCH MO RK), N.A.Khovrich.
The department trains military doctors in the following military accounting specialties:
– medical business in the ground forces;
– pharmacy.
The department is equipped with specialized classes for general military training, organization and tactics of the medical service, military toxicology radiobiologies and medical protection against nuclear and chemical weapons, and the organization of providing troops with medical equipment and equipment. Military field surgery, military field therapy, military hygiene and military epidemiology, are conducted on the basis of clinical departments of the University, the Military Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan and military unit 64615 (Sanitary and Epidemiological Center of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan).
The selection of students for training at the military department is carried out in accordance with the order of the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 219 dated 04/05/2019. “On amendments to the order of the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 07.24.2017. No. 375 “On approval of the Rules of military training for the reserve officers program” on the basis of the competition annually from August 1 to 20, selection in accordance with the recruitment plan approved by the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
