Activities of the Center for Physical Health and Sports Development at KazNMU

The Center for Physical Health of the S.D. Asfendiyarov KazNMU actively engages students in educational, sporting, and socio-cultural events, forming the foundation of a healthy nation.

Mass Sports and Student Athletics

One of the year’s key events was the inter-university sports and entertainment games titled “Movement is Life, Health, and Active Longevity!”. This traditional event brings together students from Almaty’s largest universities, fostering inter-university ties and promoting an active lifestyle.

The KazNMU Sports Club operates within the Center, coordinating extracurricular training and competitions. Key performance indicators of the club include:

  • Participation: More than 500 students systematically engage in sports activities.
  • Versatility: Training sections are available in 18 different sports. University teams regularly compete in city and national tournaments, as well as winter and summer Universiades.
  • Student Leagues: National Student League teams in football, volleyball, and basketball demonstrate consistent success.
  • Inclusivity: Special attention is given to freshmen and students living in dormitories. Dedicated tournaments and sports festivals are organized to facilitate their social adaptation.

Significant Events and Achievements

The Center’s activities extend far beyond the gym. In honor of Medical Workers’ Day, university leadership and students successfully summited “Medic Peak” (3480 meters).

The 90th anniversary of the Department of Physical Education marked a major historical milestone. As part of the jubilee:

  • A ceremonial meeting was held between Almaty university staff, sports veterans, and honored former employees of the department.
  • Commemorative medals and valuable gifts were presented to honored guests and labor veterans.
  • An exclusive meeting was organized with the legendary mountaineer Maxut Zhumaev — the 27th person in the world to conquer all 14 “eight-thousanders” without supplemental oxygen. The captain of the Kazakhstan national team shared his unique expertise on risk assessment and high-altitude safety with the students.

Social Responsibility and Education

The Center for Physical Health fulfills an important social and humanitarian mission:

  • Presidential Tests: Annual competitions are held for students and faculty (FTS) to meet Presidential Physical Fitness standards.
  • Healthy Lifestyle and Prevention: Regular campaigns are conducted for tuberculosis awareness, personal hygiene, and health responsibility.
  • Civic Engagement: University representatives are regular participants in the “Almaty Marathon,” tourism rallies, and charitable initiatives supporting orphanages.
  • Educational Work: Outreach events are held to prevent extremism, terrorism, and corruption, aimed at strengthening interethnic harmony.

The Center for Physical Health continues to create the necessary conditions for the harmonious development of future medical professionals, ensuring that professional competence is inextricably linked with physical strength and high moral values.
