INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC FORUM OF YOUTH WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS “CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION”

On April 21, 2025, an international scientific forum was held at the S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University, organized by the Department of Public Health with the participation of associate professors G.A. Begimbetova, A.A. Aitmanbetova, A.M. Shakieva, G.M. Alikeeva, M.N. Zhakupova, and lecturer N.Z. Khairullaeva. The forum included participants from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the Higher Medical Dental College named after S.R. Ruzuddunov, and Tashkent Medical Academy (Uzbekistan).
The forum was conducted within the framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 6 – “Clean Water and Sanitation,” aimed at ensuring access to water for all people and implementing sustainable water resource management practices. Clean water and sanitation play a crucial role in improving people’s quality of life, maintaining ecological balance, and fostering socio-economic development.
In many countries, access to clean water is challenging, particularly in developing nations. Industrial waste, agricultural chemicals, and household waste deteriorate water quality. Climate change affects water resources, leading to natural disasters such as droughts and floods.
Water and sanitation accessibility: many people lack safe sanitary conditions, contributing to the spread of diseases. A lack of hygiene skills facilitates the transmission of infectious diseases. The absence or poor condition of water supply and sewage systems worsens sanitary conditions.
The forum discussed topics such as education and information dissemination, raising public awareness about hygiene and sanitation, as well as sharing international experiences and projects in water resource management.
The forum provides an opportunity to engage youth actively, stimulate scientific research, and unite communities. The ideas and proposals from young people play an important role in addressing clean water and sanitation issues. At the conclusion of the forum, certificates were awarded to participants.
